New York Has my Heart
I’m a millennial and, believe it or not, my love for web design started with MySpace.
I was teaching myself HTML and CSS so I could customize my profile. I loved figuring out how changing a few lines of code could completely transform the look and feel of a page. I didn’t know it then, but that curiosity would eventually become my career.
That interest led me to study Web Design and Interactive Media in New York City before earning my bachelor’s degree from The Art Institute of Orange County in Southern California.
While in school, I gained experience in advertising, post-production, and digital media. I worked at G2 Interactive, a division of Grey Global Group, where I learned how agencies operate. I also had the opportunity to work behind the scenes as a post-production assistant for the 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Awards and interned with the award-winning post-production house Chainsaw (acquired by SIM Post).
After graduating, I joined Belmont Business Media, where I’ve spent more than 17 years growing alongside the digital industry. What started as a web-focused role evolved into leading website strategy, digital marketing, email campaigns, events, creative teams, user experience, and brand growth. Today, I serve as Creative Director while continuing to personally design and develop websites through 546 Media.
Over the years, life has taken me all over the country. I was born & raised in Newport Beach, California but I’ve also called New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Oregon, Texas, Arizona and now Idaho home, and each move has given me the opportunity to meet incredible people and work with businesses from all kinds of industries.
When I’m not behind my computer, you’ll usually find me at a motocross track cheering on one of my kids, chasing my newest creative hobby (painting), or tackling whatever adventure our busy family is off to next.
I love what I do because it combines creativity with problem-solving. Every business has a story to tell, and I genuinely enjoy helping bring that story to life through thoughtful design, strategy, and a website that’s built with purpose.
A funny story
Why 546 Media?
One of the questions I get asked the most is, “Where did the name 546 Media come from? What does it stand for?”
The answer is much less exciting than most people expect.
Back in college, in order to graduate, we had to come up with our brand. Everyone around me seemed to have these clever business names, and I was completely stuck.
Then I looked down at my phone.
On a phone keypad, 5-4-6 spells KIM.
That’ll do.
I went with 546 Media, and somehow it’s stuck ever since.
For my class presentation, I came up with a much more polished explanation for what the numbers represented. It sounded strategic and impressive… Five (5) Goals for (4) Six (6) Services.
But the truth? It was always just “Kim” Media.
Today, that little story still lives on throughout my brand. The three copper dots you’ll see across my website are a subtle nod to the keypad that started it all, and a small reminder that sometimes the simplest ideas end up being the ones that last.
